SHANKLIN Shanklin is one of the main seafront holiday destinations on the island. It is easily acessible by car or train. The most popular part of Shanklin is the old Village with its thatched cottages and pubs it really is a picture postcard. There are some quaint shops and old fashioned tea rooms, which offer cream teas, and there is a choice of several pubs that offer great food. Just a short stroll away is Shanklin Chine a picturesque woodland with waterfalls that are illuminated throuthout the summer evenings. Shanklin has its own lift to provide easy access to the beach from the clifftop. Once your down on the seafront you you will find the usual array of shops, cafes and amusements. A short walk down the esplanade you will find Lake which has a watersports centre, so the more adventurous can go wind surfing, sailing etc. If you visit Shanklin in the evening you will find Pubs like The Village Inn and next door The Holliers Hotel have live music most nights and a great friendly atmosphere. Shanklin is a must see town if you are visiting the island.
