RYDE

Often called the gateway to the Island, Ryde is a pleasant Victorian town with many holiday facilities.

Ryde's main attraction for families is its miles of glorious golden sand and shallow coastal waters that extend all the way around the coast to Seaview.

Along the seafront you will find all the main attractions which include the bowling greens, ice rink, tenpin bowling above which is “The Balcony nightclub, trampolines, children’s amusements, and many typical seaside shops arcades and cafes.

There is also a harbour which has visitors moorings that can be hired during the summer.

There are regular fishing trips that go from the harbour throughout the summer months.

The promenade stretches along the sea wall to the swimming pool, childrens play area with paddling pool and the canoe lake with its swans. Appley Gardens, with Puckpool Park is only a short walk away with its tennis courts and cafe and a lovely sandy beach.

The main high street is only a short walk from the sea front with its vast array of shops including restaurants, cafes and bars.

At the far end of the pier is the catamaran service to Portsmouth.There is a train that runs from the end of the Ryde pier to Brading, Sandown, Lake and Shanklin. On the sea front is the hovercraft service to Southsea. While only 5 minutes drive away is the Fishbourne to Portsmouth Ferry service.

The bus depot based at the start of Ryde pier also has open top buses which is an ideal way to tour the island.

While most of the island is National Trust Ryde is a conservation area with many grade 2 listed buildings.
